Tidal energy is a form of hydropower that harnesses the movement of the ocean’s tides, using turbines to produce large amounts of clean, renewable energy. The most productive captive source of this tidal power are located at tidal streams, which are currents in the sea that flow as the tide moves in and out. From a concept perspective, tidal stream turbines are similar to wind turbines but use fast moving tidal streams instead of the wind to generate electricity, and as sea water is 832 times denser than air, a 5 knot ocean current has more kinetic energy than a 350 km/h wind. As a result, ocean currents have a very high energy density and therefore tidal stream turbines tend to be smaller in size than wind turbines. In addition, the difference between high tide and low tide is known as tidal range. And until recently, the only way electricity has been harnessed from tidal range is through construction of tidal barrages containing turbines across the mouth of estuaries that have large tides. Purestream Industries have developed working partnerships with hydro-turbine innovators and have explored opportunities to exploit this technology at a smaller scale, in sewers and outfalls. The technology perfectly compliments our principles of identifying and extracting every element of energy, material and resource from perceived waste streams.
Biogas as an energy has been utilised for many years with the wastewater treatment sector and the knowledge gained in this sector can be easily transferred, to the variety of new emerging sectors and end users wishing to utilise this waste product. The most straightforward use of biogas is for thermal (heat) energy and in areas where fuels are scarce, small biogas systems can provide the heat energy for basic cooking and water heating and / or gas lighting systems for illumination. Additionally, if biogas is cleaned and processed prior to use, with appropriate cleaning or upgrade the biogas can be used in all applications that have been developed for natural gas. Puresteam Industries can assess your potential for biogas production on site and means to increase yields and increase self sufficiency.
To produce hydrogen, it must be separated from the other elements in the molecules where it occurs. There are many different sources of hydrogen and ways for producing it for use as a fuel. The two most common methods for producing hydrogen are steam-methane reforming and electrolysis (splitting water with electricity. Purestream Industries target to be at the forefront of developing systems for the renewable method of hydrogen generation with a focus on the water quality specifications required and the process required to produce it.
